Immediate past Defence Minister and former National Security Adviser, NSA, Gen. Aliyu Gusau, may have begun moves to warm his way into the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Gusau, who served almost 16 years in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP-led administrations, yesterday hosted a seminar tagged, ‘Africa’s big five; Power and Influence in Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Ethopia, Nigeria and South Africa’ at his Gusau Institute in Kaduna, with only All Progressives Congress, APC governors and chieftains in attendance.
Our correspondent, who was at the event, says no PDP governor or chieftain was there.
Governors from Kaduna, Kano, Niger, Sokoto, Adamawa, and Zamfara State deputy governor controlled by APC however graced the seminar.
Gusau, who is still a strong member of PDP, shocked participants when none of his party members was at the event.
A participants told National Mirror that with the development, Gusau, may have concluded plan to dump PDP and join President Buhari’s new government.
“We were shocked today because Gen. Gusau’s entire political career has been in PDP. In fact, the man is the immediate Defence Minister under the defeated PDP government. We wonder why only APC governors are in attendance. Some of us sense that Gen. Gusau may have concluded plan to join President Buhari’s government. You know, he is a military and political strategist,” the participant said.
Former Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Alani Akinrinade, also at the event said the military could not be a solution to the perennial and bloody Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria.
Akinrinade, who spoke as the chairman of the occasion, called on management of Gusau Institute to direct its expertise in security issues towards finding lasting solution to Boko Haram.
He said: “Let me say a word or two again about Boko Haram. I have heard a lot of discussions about Boko Haram from many people. I must say that I am lost about the causes of Boko Haram, and I am sure most of our countrymen are also lost. I want to charge this institute to take this matter very seriously.
“But I am not aware of any military doctrine that has been put down that has addressed effectively guerrilla warfare, which is easier. But these kinds of insurrection we are now having on our hands have never been addressed by any military doctrine successfully.
“So I am aware that military solution is not going to be the end of Boko Haram.”
