FG Bans Use of Camouflage By Police, Other Para-miltary Outfits, Restricts Use To the Armed Forces

The use of camouflage/fatigue is therefore restricted to the military and for occasional use by the police henceforth. The directive also stipulates that the military is to adopt only 2 types of camouflage for the 3 arms of the Armed Forces. All para-military agencies using various camouflage/fatigues uniforms have up to January 2016 to withdraw such materials currently in their inventory.

The use of camouflage uniforms by various security agencies other than the Armed Forces namely; Army, Navy and the Air Force has been banned. The Nigerian Police will however use the uniform when in Joint Operation with the military or on special operation such as specific anti-riot missions. This followed the directive of the National Security Council, as it approved the recommendations of a committee on measures to streamline the use of camouflage uniforms, in view of the security implications and concerns raised on the clamour, duplicity and proliferation of camouflage uniforms in the country.
With this development, the Ministry of Justice along with law enforcement agencies have been tasked to ensure that extant laws guiding the use of uniforms in Nigeria are strictly enforced. In the same vein, the Office of the National Security Adviser has been vested with the authority to vet and clear any production and supply of camouflage uniforms in Nigeria.
The proliferation and imitation by criminals and impostors using uniforms especially the camouflage have been generating some concern in national security circles. The development has been communicated to all the agencies by the Office of the National Security Adviser.

38-yr-old woman to die by hanging over step-son’s murder

38-yr-old woman to die by hanging over step-son’s murder

A Makurdi High Court, presided over by Justice Jennifer Ijohor, yesterday, sentenced a 38-year-old house wife, Mrs. Ternenge Tersoo, to death by hanging for the murder of her one-year-old step-son.
Vanguard learned that the convict’s husband had reported her to the Police at Vandeikya in 2012, alleging that his wife killed his one-year-old baby.
According to the First Information Report, FIR, filed before the court by the police prosecutor, she was accused of snatching her year old step-son from a nanny and strangled him to death.
In the course of the trial, the accused testified for herself and denied the allegation, but called no witness to support her claims.

The prosecution counsel called two witnesses, including the Investigating Police Officer, IPO, who tendered a medical report of the autopsy carried out on the dead baby at the General Hospital, Vandeikya.
In her judgment, Justice Ijohor held that the weight of evidence against the accused was overwhelming.
She further held that the evidence before her showed that the prosecuting counsel proved his case beyond all reasonable doubts to cause the conviction of the accused.
Justice Ijohor, who decried the manner the life of the innocent baby was taken, advised married women without children to seek God’s intervention in their situation rather than resort to vicious and repulsive acts.
She ordered that the convict be taken to the Federal Minimum Prison, Makurdi, where she would await execution of the judgement.

The suspects were paraded along with a custodian of an Ibadan masquerade, known as Ogunmola Adenimodo, for allegedly destroying some vehicles at Ayeye area of Ibadan metropolis.
They were rounded up at Moniya in Akinyele Local Government Area of the state.
Ibadan masquerade festival had always left on its trail tears, losses, violence, bloodshed and even death in some cases.
However, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Muhammed Katsina, insisted that the reign of terror and impunity would not continue.
While parading the suspects at the state Police headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan yesterday, the commissioner explained that the ambush squad of the command arrested the two members of a dangerous syndicate who specialized in duping unsuspecting members of the public.
According to him, the suspects, who were allegedly caught with human parts, always pretended to offer their victims spiritual assistance.
He said small pieces of human skull, hair, fake 900 dollars and some charms were found on the suspects.
While stating that the masquerade custodian had violated an earlier undertaking they made with the police, he said the police would not allow any individual or group to constitute a threat to public peace and order, especially during the on-going masquerade festival.
He vowed that other fleeing suspects would be arrested wherever they might be hiding.
However, Sikiru denied the allegation that his supporters destroyed the vehicles, saying his masquerade was yet to go to town.
He added that since the police had not granted him permit to go out with his Masquerade, he marked the festival indoor.
